"I started using HRM's when most marathon runners were hand timed. My first HRM was a bulky SEIKO model. 2 cables ran from the watch to an equally uncomfortable chest strap. I looked more like a patient then a self motivated running enthusiast. I purchased my first Polar HRM in the early 90’s. The 'Coach' model was still pretty bulky. Things have improved significantly. I am very happy with my current RS800CX PTE. Used with the S3 and G3 GPS sensors, I can check my running routes in different ways. S3 is an instant option and GPS is great for exploring new routes, particularly when travelling. I have been contemplating other and purely GPS based HRM's. However, my thin RS800 monitor is also a fantastic everyday watch. The much bulkier models from other manufacturers are very obtrusive, extremely power hungry & not really suited for everyday wear. I have completed in excess of 30 marathons (PB 2:56). My Polar watches have and will continue! to be great motivational and analytical tools."
